What is the best material for a patio?
It depends on the look you want, your budget and how the space will be used. Should a patio slope away from the house?
Yes. A patio should be laid with a slight fall so rainwater drains away from the building instead of pooling on the surface. We set the levels during installation so the patio drains properly and sits below your damp-proof course.
Can you match a new patio to my driveway?
Yes. Using the same or complementary materials for your driveway, paths and patio gives the whole property a joined-up look, and doing the work together is often the most efficient way to complete it.
Do I need planning permission for a patio?
Patios in back gardens do not usually need planning permission. Different rules can apply to listed buildings and conservation areas, or where a patio or platform is raised more than 30cm above the ground, so it is worth checking with Guildford Borough Council if any of those apply.
