Driveways usually fail for a reason — a weak sub-base, poor drainage, tree roots, missing edge restraints or years of heavy use. A quick patch rarely lasts if the underlying cause isn’t dealt with, so we start by working out why the damage has happened.
Block paving is particularly repairable: sunken or rutted areas can be lifted, the base built up and re-compacted, and the original blocks relaid and re-sanded so the repair blends in. Tarmac damage such as potholes and cracks can sometimes be cut out and patched, although if the surface has failed across a wide area, resurfacing or replacement is often better value.

Can sunken block paving be repaired?
Usually, yes. We lift the affected blocks, find and fix the cause, rebuild and compact the base, then relay the original blocks and re-sand the joints. Because the same blocks go back down, the repair blends in with the rest of the drive.
Is it worth repairing an old tarmac driveway?
If the damage is limited to a few potholes or cracks and the base underneath is sound, a repair or resurfacing can be good value. If the surface is breaking up across a large area or the drive has sunk, replacement with a new sub-base is often the better long-term option. We will tell you honestly which makes sense.
Why has my block paving sunk?
The most common causes are a thin or poorly compacted sub-base, water getting under the paving because of poor drainage, missing or failed edge restraints, tree roots, or old service trenches settling. Identifying the cause is the key to a repair that lasts.
How can I stop weeds growing through my driveway?
Keep the joints topped up with kiln-dried sand, sweep regularly so seeds and debris cannot settle, and remove weeds before they establish. On block paving, a joint-stabilising sealant can help reduce weed growth. If the joints have washed out badly, we can clean and re-sand the surface for you.
